Drummers' Sword

The Drummers' Sword was introduced in 1895 and replaced an earlier cross hilted ‘Romanesque’ style sword which was then relegated to Volunteers and Militia.

The hilt was made in polished brass and the blade shaped like that of the 1888 pattern Lee Metford rifle bayonet.

It was declared obsolete in 1903.

Interestingly, List of Changes of 1901 stated that all swords including drummers must be sharpened 'before going on service'.
